On March 23, 2011, 31 amazing people were sworn-in as a CASA. Over a two week period these CASAs spent 30 hours of their free time learning how to make a difference in the life of a child, now is the time.
Every year, more than 10,000 children in Colorado are abused and neglected by their families and as a result, end up without a home to call their own. These children need help finding safe, permanent homes – something every child deserves.
Fortunately, the children in Arapahoe, Douglas, Elbert, and Lincoln Counties have a lifeline – Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) volunteers. CASA volunteers are community members – from all walks of life – who give their time and compassion to bring hope to children in their communities who need it most. CASA volunteers spend time with children whose futures are in jeopardy due to abuse or neglect, have subsequent court involvement, and frequently, are in out-of-home placement. A CASA volunteer is able to advocate for the child’s best interest in court, and help them in their journey to finding a safe, permanent home.
A CASA volunteer’s focus includes spending time with the children, studying the case and meeting with family and professionals in order to bring pertinent, objective information to the court. Judges depend on such information in order to make quality decisions regarding safe, permanent homes for these vulnerable children.
Consider becoming a CASA volunteer. The only special background or equipment needed is the heart to care for some of the most vulnerable children and the determination to do something about it. Applications are being accepted now for training beginning on May 2nd. A child is waiting –www.adv4children.org or call 303-695-1882.
Awesome! Congrats to all of the new volunteers! AND to such a great nonprofit for doing what you do, and for continuously engaging your community to help advocate for abused and neglected child victims!
